Nonviolent Communication Training in the Child for Good Program (Brazil)

Social Volunteering

Teacher Andreia Bazzo gave a training course on Nonviolent Communication (NVC) in the Child for Good (Criança para o Bem) Program (Brazil). The volunteer and instructor gave the team some in-depth insights into how to improve the way we communicate, whether with colleagues, family members or in any social setting.

NVC is an approach that promotes mutual understanding, respect and empathy, helping to resolve conflicts in a peaceful and constructive manner. The topic is fundamental for developing awareness of relationships, in order to make them more respectful and empathetic in everyday life.

During the lecture, the instructor presented techniques such as active listening, expressing feelings and empathy. The first involves listening attentively and without judgment. The second helps to talk about one’s own emotions clearly and honestly. Finally, empathy seeks to understand the needs of the other without imposing or criticizing.

Participants also had the opportunity to practice during the training, applying the teachings in activities proposed by Andreia. The purpose of the training was to strengthen coexistence and build a more harmonious environment through more conscious and respectful communication.

Since 2007, the social arm of New Acropolis, in Brasília, has been the Child for Good Program, which has already assisted more than 3,500 children, adolescents and young people in the Service of Coexistence and Strengthening of Bonds – SCSB. Through workshops, it provides playful, cultural and sports learning experiences, following the Learning for GOOD Methodology. The goal is to develop the skills and talents, virtues and protagonism of those assisted, thus contributing to the common good and the formation of citizenship.
