Discovering life in the plant world – celebrating the International Day of Mother Earth (Bologna, Italy)
On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, a workshop was held for children aged 6 to 11. The event dealed with the sowing of seedlings and foresaw a small theater to explain the tree’s structure and the underlying world of its roots.
The initiative was organized by Nuova Acropolis Bologna in collaboration with the associations Andare a Veglia, Salviamo la Ghiacciaia, that hosted the event in its garden transformed into a real experimental park, with the patronage of the Borgo Panigale-Reno District.
Over 20 children, animated by volunteers, took part in the face painting and had fun with sculptures of varied balloons before entering in the spirit of the initiative: the volunteers of New Acropolis, guided a small sowing of a little plant where all children could handle soil and seeds. Finally, the children were introduced to two funny characters: “professor Saputelli”, a very expert biologist and to Nicolino, a somewhat clumpsy student.
The two hilarious characters needed all the help of children to recognize the animals that hide in the subsoil of the earth, such as earthworms, fungi and bacteria, essential to guarantee fertility and life to our planet.
