Sowing the Future: A Day of Species Identification and Seed Collection at Sarmiento Park (Córdoba, Argentina)

Ecological Volunteering

Last week, as part of the Urban Forests project, volunteers from New Acropolis, alongside biologist Luisina Battistón and friends of the School, gathered for a new day of environmental action at Sarmiento Park, the heart of the city’s green landscape.

This initiative was more than just a walk through the park; it was an immersive educational experience focused on understanding and preserving the local biodiversity.

The day was centered around three core activities:

  • Identifying Native Species: Recognizing the indigenous trees that are vital to our local ecosystem.

  • Botany in Practice: Learning to distinguish the unique characteristics, textures, and life cycles of our native flora.

  • Seed Collection: Gathering seeds for future germination, ensuring the next generation of trees for our city.

The Urban Forests project has been working for eight years to revalue native woodlands. Through environmental education, strategic tree planting, and sapling donations, the project has become a pillar of ecological awareness in our community.

“Small actions, sustained over time, build great changes.”

This philosophy drives every volunteer, reminding us that caring for our environment is a practical expression of our values.
